100 Urban Scenarios

Everyone loves to travel far and wide, and I'm sure your party of heroes is no exception. Historically, from humanity's earliest days, people have sought out friends and family, built homes, and founded settlements. Over time, these settlements grew into cities that vary in structure and purpose. But they all share one thing in common: the people who live there—peasants and nobles alike—each with their own stories, superstitions, and gossip.
Naturally, every journey is about discovering something new and learning about local customs and traditions. But what if I told you that the most captivating part of visiting a new city is diving into its legends, myths, mysteries, murders, and love stories—events so unique to each city that they inspire your heroes to new adventures?
When a well-traveled party visits many towns, villages, and other settlements, these stories linger in their memories far more than just the city's name. For a Game Master (GM), though, creating such plothooks for every location can be challenging. That's why we've put together this collection of scenarios.
These scenarios are plothooks grounded in folklore, which you can use as the basis for an adventure, a supplemental storyline, or simply an intriguing tale to enrich your campaign. Our focus on folklore allowed us to gather time-tested ideas and adapt them for an RPG setting. Most revolve around curses, love, or murders, emphasizing one or more key themes: Exploration, diplomacy, or combat. Still, it's up to the heroes to shape how the story unfolds. Each scenario is structured around the core problem and its consequences, the origins or history behind it, possible ways to address it, and how to ultimately resolve it.
Within these pages, you'll also find short incantation-like poems, additional adventure hooks, potential solutions, tidbits from real folklore, and much more. These scenarios don't assume any specific character levels, so they can be dropped into any campaign where cities play a role.
